James Sinclair

Director of Human Rights Consulting
  • By combining the locational data of your operations, suppliers or investments with our world-leading global risk indices you can instantly assess your risk exposure across 32 human rights issues for 198 countries. To ensure you have the granularity of data you need for specific sites, our subnational human rights data set covers 10 issues, including child and forced labour, and 3600 regions globally. The dataset, which combines our proprietary methodologies with dynamic event gathering, is updated quarterly enabling detailed risk assessments that reflect the situation on the ground.

  • Definitely. Our advisory team has extensive HRDD experience working in-house and with clients across many industries, including some of the largest brands in the world. We can work with you to establish company-wide due diligence activities such as strategy/policy formulation, target-setting, process implementation, remediation and reporting. These will help you minimise impacts, promote opportunities and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • We deliver bespoke human rights training via classroom-based sessions, remote e-learning and pre-recorded modules. We take the time to learn about your business and then develop training programmes that reflect your unique situation and are relevant and informative to your employees. We’ve also created a wide range of tools, methods and templates that you can use to deliver high impact programmes quickly and easily.

  • We provide both. Our desk-based impact assessments provide organisations with a rapid understanding of key risks and opportunities at the corporate level, or in specific functions, supply chains or countries of operation. We have undertaken on-the-ground HRIAs using an externally validated and UNGP-aligned methodology for numerous mining projects in Sub-Saharan Africa, South America and North America.

  • Verisk Maplecroft is committed to respecting and promoting human rights. We are a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and sit on the UK working group. We also host and administer a range of online human rights resources, including Girl Stats, a platform funded by Verisk that hosts the world’s most comprehensive data sets on the key issues affecting adolescent girls; the Human Rights and Business Dilemmas Forum; and the Children’s Rights and Business Atlas – a joint project with UNICEF and the Global Child Forum. Many of our consultants also volunteer externally with human rights organisations, helping to tackle issues such as modern slavery.
