Consumer Potential Index

China’s middle class – already the largest in the world – is set to grow by 8.4% annually between 2010 and 2025. The subnational map demonstrates that while potential can be found across much of the country, certain areas stand out as growth epicentres for the years ahead. The Pearl River Delta Mega City – home to some 40 million people, and encompassing the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan, Jiangmen and Zhongshan – holds particular prospects as rising wages in the industrial sector continue to draw in internal migrants from other regions of the country, who in turn will require a growing service sector to support rising consumption.
