The human resources officer of a mid-sized UK food company was charged with ensuring compliance to the UK Modern Slavery Act.
-
Challenge
The UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires companies to publish a statement confirming the steps they have taken to ensure that slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in their business or supply chain. With hundreds of Tier 1 suppliers, brokers and importers located in various countries, our client had limited visibility over many of these operations.
-
Solution
Using our dedicated Modern Slavery Index, we were able to quickly rank and prioritise each supplier based on their likely risk exposure and to identify those located in high-risk locations. They received a risk map to help communicate these findings to the wider business.
-
Outcome
Having now carried out an initial risk assessment of suppliers, the company was able to demonstrate that due diligence on the supply chain had been conducted. With our help, they drafted a modern slavery statement for the company.
