Political Risk

Introduction

Political Risk Atlas 2010

The Political Risk Atlas 2010 includes 41 risk indices measuring political risks relating to two distinct areas. The first, dynamic risks, assesses 'traditional' political risks, such as regime stability, rule of law, terrorism, and the business environment. The second, structural risks, measures long-term trends and deeply ingrained features of a country, such as human rights, resource security, development and climate change vulnerability.

The Political Risk Atlas 2010 offers a comprehensive appraisal of political risks

  • Traditional risk areas including conflict, terrorism, the rule of law as well as the regulatory and business environment
  • Emerging risk areas affecting political stability such as food security, water security, energy security, climate change, poverty
  • Integrates innovative methodology drawing on GIS data-sets and geographical coding of locations of incidents
  • Addresses the interdependence and conflation of political risk clusters using rigorous statistics, indices and expert analysis
  • Includes risk trends based on previous year's results

Political risk indices identify and assess risk for all geographies

Forty one indices are presented in nine risk clusters, facilitating informed strategic planning and decision-making throughout the life of your investment or in-country presence

Indices can be:

  • Aggregated in different combinations to reflect your priorities for different decision-making functions, strategic planning, supply chain management or on-the-ground operations
  • Used individually, providing the granularity and analysis required for issue-specific assessments and monitoring

Indices are complemented by sub-national mapping capabilities that enable accurate quantification and visualisation of different risk exposures at the local level for factories, offices, farms or other key assets

More substantive analysis is available through Maplecroft's political risk country briefings and in depth reports, which are available on request with a 48 hour turnaround and can be tailored to a client's needs to include sector analysis and maps.
