Mark Allison

Mark has an MSci in Mathematics and Physics from Glasgow University. He has over nine years experience in the electronics and Information Technology sectors.

Laurie has a BEng (Hons) from Glasgow University and has over seven years experience as a web designer/developer working in both the public and private sectors. He also has experience as a researcher focusing on the regeneration of Inner London.

Rob is a software engineer with over 15 years experience of working in a wide range of sectors, including telecoms, marketing and academia. He specializes in the development of open-source information systems and websites. He has a BSc(Hons) in Maths and Computing from the University of Bath.

Liz is a corporate responsibility specialist with crosscutting expertise in commerce and sustainable development domains in developed and developing countries. Her multicultural experience includes ethical supply chain development, social and environmental due diligence, natural resources, strategic analysis, community development, partnership development and stakeholder analysis. Prior to joining Maplecroft, Liz worked in and with a wide range of organisations including major corporations, SMEs, international organisations, NGOs, research and governmental organisations. She has a BA in International Relations, an MSc in Agroforestry from the University of Aberdeen and an MBA with an environmental management specialisation from TiasNimbas Business School in the Netherlands.

Alison has been developing information systems for over 20 years and has a broad range of software experience including internet applications, databases and Open Source deployment. She has an MA in Mathematics from Oxford University.

Roger has a BA in Law, an International MBA from Instituto de Empresa and a MLitt in International Security from St. Andrews. Prior to joining Maplecroft, Roger worked for over four years in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ mergers and acquisitions team, where he advised multinational companies, private equity funds and small and medium enterprises in domestic and cross-border deals.

Graham is a software developer with over 15 years experience building information systems. He has an MEng in Software Engineering from Imperial College.
Ed Cole - Managing Director

Ed (Founding Director) is an Engineer with significant experience in computer-aided visualisation for scientific and business insight. With a software background, he has worked the corporate ladder in Silicon Valley, built a DotCom success, and now directs technology for Maplecroft.

Anthony has a BA in Politics and Philosophy from Exeter University and an MA in Human Rights from University College London. Prior to joining Maplecroft, he gained NGO experience working at Amnesty International and the Kurdish Human Rights Project in London.

Kevin has a PhD in Industrial and Business Studies from Warwick Business School and more than 10 years practical experience facilitating and advising business on sustainability, stakeholder engagement, non-financial risk management and ethical supply chain issues. Kevin is a professionally experienced auditor to both the ISO 14001 and SA 8000 standards, has published widely and co-authored numerous reports for high-level international fora.

Yvette is Alyson's PA. She also assists the Maplecroft team with their travel arrangements and office administration where helpful. She worked with Alyson for five years while Alyson was Director of the International Centre for the Environment at Bath University and then later joined Maplecroft after a period of maternity leave.

James has an MSc in Environmental Technology and a PhD in Energy Policy from Imperial College, London. He has lived and conducted research in both Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, publishing academic and journalistic articles on various aspects of natural resource management, renewable energy and the socio-economic implications of energy market liberalisation.

Lewis has a MA in Economic Science and an MLitt in Middle East Security from the University of Aberdeen. Prior to joining Maplecroft he worked for HSBC in the bank’s Global Security Intelligence team. Lewis’s expertise lies in the strategic analysis of the impact of terrorism, political violence, and extremism on companies operations, particularly with reference to the Middle East and Asia.

Rebecca has a BA in Geography from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Chinese and Southeast Asian politics from the London School of Oriental and African Studies. Prior to joining Maplecroft she worked as a researcher at Chatham House on Chinese energy and climate security. She has provided consultancy to an international NGO on Chinese activities in Africa and political risk analysis on Southeast Asia. Rebecca has lived and worked in China.

Audrey has a BA in Visual Design from the University of Haute Bretagne (France) and an MA in Film Studies and European Cinema from the University of West England. She has extensive graphic design and layout experience. She is responsible for graphic design, layout and typesetting of copy.

Gus has an MA in History, a diploma in Law and holds a MLitt in International Security from St Andrews. He qualified as a solicitor in 2003, having trained in international, marine and insurance law in the City. Gus has worked in the Lloyd’s insurance market and the European Commission where he trained with the terrorism and security cooperation unit. Main areas of expertise include political risk, terrorism, geopolitics and security.

Magnus has a BSc in Sociology, an MSc in International Development Planning and a PhD in Business and Social Development. He is an accredited social facilitator, accountant and auditor with over 10 years' experience in the field of corporate social responsibility working as an independent social consultant and research fellow at the universities of Oxford, Bath and Warwick.

Martin is a member of the design team. He graduated from the North Oxfordshire College of Art & Design and has gained 7 years experience working within a publishing and multimedia environment. Martin has strong typographic and layout skills.

Eva has a MA in International Relations from the University of St Andrews and studied at the University’s Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence. In 2004, she joined Olive Group’s Risk Analysis team, assessing security in Iraq and then Assynt Associates where she analysed political developments and risks to businesses in the Middle East and Asia. Eva joined the Global Risks team in 2007.

Anna has a background in environmental sciences, with a BSc in Ecology and a PhD from the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Conservation at the University of East Anglia. Her research experience includes behavioural ecology, population dynamics, biodiversity and how they are influenced by climatic change, as well as the application of GIS in environmental research.

Andrea has a BA in Latin American History from Bates College and an MSc in Population and Development from the London School of Economics. She specialises in public health and population issues in developing countries, with research experience covering health service evaluation and agricultural labour issues in Latin America. She has also conducted data analysis and developed presentation tools for surveys assessing HIV/AIDS risk and awareness in developing countries.

Lyn looks after finance, administration and HR matters at Maplecroft. This covers a multitude of tasks supporting everyone in the company in one way or another. She manages all aspects of office management and when the deadlines are tight, can be found buried under bound reports and parcels for shipment.

Mani has a PgDip in Environmental Management, an MSc in Environmental Forestry from the University of North Wales and an MSc in Public Policy and Administration from the University of London. Prior to joining Maplecroft, Mani worked in and with a wide range of organisations including SMEs, international NGOs and UN agencies, multi-lateral agencies and governmental organizations. She has more than 10 years experience in developing and developed countries providing oversight project management and technical support on civil society governance issues (including stakeholders' engagement, community development), sustainable development and environment. Mani is a professional experienced auditor to the ISO14001 standard.

Andy has a MRes from Edinburgh University and a PhD in Earth Sciences from Worcester College, Oxford. At Maplecroft, Andy has taken a lead role in the development of innovative methodologies for quantifying non-financial risks that impact global business. He has also conducted bespoke research projects for blue-chip companies and international organisations on environmental, energy, health and humanitarian issues.

Dacre is a software developer with over 10 years experience in the media, finance and IT sectors. Before joining Maplecroft, he worked as a trading floor Market Data systems specialist, and for an award winning IT company specialising in open source solutions.
Professor Alyson Warhurst - Director

Alyson is a social scientist in development studies. She has a BSc (Hons.) in Earth Sciences and an MSc and PhD in Science, Technology and Industrialisation. She is Professor of Strategy and International Development at Warwick Business School and Director of the Corporate Citizenship Unit, where she works part time. She was acclaimed to be one of the top Gurus at Warwick Business School, by an Independent (on Sunday) review of all UK Business Schools. Alyson is a fully trained and innovative facilitator with over a decade of experience facilitating multi-stakeholder workshops and conferences world-wide.
